There will be a big shift in the BUILD EXITO team. Carlos Crespo, DrPH, the co-Principal Investigator of BUILD EXITO, has accepted the position of Dean of the College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).
In a statement to the EXITO community, Crespo shared the following:
“I am extremely thankful for the privilege of partnering with all of you throughout this journey. We started with an idea, actually a dream, of expanding opportunities for underrepresented students, and slowly we created a collaboration built on trust, mutual respect, and a common goal. I would do it again in a heartbeat, and would 100% choose to work with each and every one of you.
Dr. Tom Keller will be formally taking the reins in August and guiding us during the transition. We don't foresee any major changes to what we have already planned. We have a great team in place, and a well-established and tested infrastructure for a seamless transition.
Like I said in my introductory paragraph, this transition comes with mixed feelings as EXITO has been the most professionally and personally rewarding endeavor I have been involved with. However, I am also looking forward to the new challenge. I promise to stay in touch and I am sure we will cross paths again.
I have such great appreciation for our time together. We have made a great impact on the lives of deserving students that are going to diversify the biomedical workforce for years to come. We did it together.”
