Following up on his generous $100,000 scholarship gift made through the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to four deserving college students back in 2015, actor and comedian Kevin Hart has joined forces with UNCF and the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP) to help 18 more KIPP students earn a college degree.

Mack Williams

Xavier BUILD scholar Mack Williams was one of three Xavier University KIPP recipients. Originally from West Helena, Arkansas, Williams is an undergraduate student currently conducting biostatistics research with XULA mathematics professor Carroll Diaz Jr. This summer, Williams participated in a computational biology research internship at the University of Michigan. For 10 weeks, Williams explored essential transcription factors that could potentially stop cancer cell proliferation and served as a mentor and resident assistant for six high school students.

Other Xavier students who received the KIPP award were incoming freshman Lauryn Williams from Atlanta and junior speech pathology major Daja Brooks from Chicago.
