Open Position for an Internal Evaluator/Assessment Specialist

Xavier University of LA, a Historically Black and Catholic University located in New Orleans, invites applications for the position of Internal Evaluator/Assessment Specialist for the NIH-funded BUILD Program, Project Pathways.  The Internal Evaluator/Assessment Specialist reports to the Vice President for Planning, Institutional Research, and Assessment and the BUILD Program Principal Investigators. 

The duties of this position include:

• Developing and implementing assessment processes and procedures for the different aspects of the BUILD Program by:
  • Working with the Core Directors and Program Managers for the four BUILD Program cores (Administrative, Institutional Development, Student Training, and Research Enrichment)
  • Working with the Educational Improvement Specialist in the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Faculty Development, the BUILD Program’s external evaluation team, the BUILD Coordination and Evaluation Center, and the Directors of the University offices involved in the Program, including the Career Advancement Center, the Student Academic Success Office, the Center for Undergraduate Research, and the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Faculty Development
  • Working with the course improvement mini-grant recipients
  • Working with other student research training programs on campus to focus on the different aspects of the student and mentor training activities
• Providing formative and summative systems that more effectively evaluate specific activities and initiatives funded by the BUILD Program that allow for comparison of strategies and results across these initiatives and activities and provide comprehensive, long-term measures of their overall impact
• Setting up and entering all program-related evaluation data into the University assessment system as well as into the BUILD Consortium Coordination and Evaluation Center system
• Stimulating and facilitating research on the efficacy of the data collection and evaluation strategies developed and implemented for the different BUILD activities and initiatives
• Providing mechanisms for active dissemination of lessons learned and successes achieved
• Providing suggestions for areas of improvement, or ways to better use resources, based on results of assessment;
• Assisting in the preparation of annual reports
• Preparing quarterly reports for the Leadership Team and the External Evaluators.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge and Command of Research Design and Statistics (General Linear Model)
  • variations of regressions (e.g., binomial logistic regression) and predictive analytics
  • t-tests
  • correlations
  • MANCOVA
  • data cleaning, storage, and management

• Ability to design and identify experimental/intervention and comparison/control groups in educational settings
• Proficiency in Excel and SPSS
• Knowledge of HERI surveys would be preferred
• Excellent project management and program evaluation skills
• Knowledge and command of multi-site, cluster evaluation methods
• Knowledge and command of formative and summative evaluation methods with logic model development
• Knowledge and command of survey design, implementation, and analysis
• Experience with focus groups, structured and semi-structured interviews, and qualitative methods (content analysis)
• Excellent time management and ability to collaborate and present to multiple stakeholders in plain language
• Ability to work under tight deadlines
• Ability to work well in leadership role on project management team
• Experience working with or in Institutional Research offices would be preferred
• Experience in faculty development as position involves course and faculty evaluations
