On Nov. 10, California State University, Northridge (CSUN) was named as a 2020 Innovation & Economic Prosperity (IEP) Talent Award recipient during the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) annual Innovation & Economic Prosperity University Awards.

CSUN was one of four universities recognized by the APLU, which also highlighted the NIH-funded undergraduate biomedical research training program, BUILD PODER.

In their announcement, the APLU praised CSUN’s BUILD PODER program, as well as the Health Equity Research and Education (HERE) Center for their work in diversifying the biomedical research workforce, and for their abilities “to cultivate talent and address health inequities through education, research, and community engagement.”

Winners of this prestigious award are chosen based on their education and workforce development. This year’s awardees were also applauded by APLU President Peter McPherson for their importance during an ongoing global pandemic.

“This year’s designees and award winners are well-positioned to play an important role in our economic recovery and help drive longer-term economic growth and prosperity,” McPherson said.
