MyNRMN has launched its inaugural asynchronous My Course: Unconscious Bias Course. In the fall of 2019, NRMN partnered with Linda Solis, Ph.D., and Mirabelle Fernandes Paul, Ed.D., to create what is now the Unconscious Bias Course, housed within My Courses in MyNRMN. Solis and Fernandes Paul did not know each other, but both were experts in the study of unconscious bias and collaborated to develop NRMN’s first course. When they started working on this course, they had no idea what 2020 had in store. The Unconscious Bias Course is now ready at a time when it is needed most.

Within the Unconscious Bias Course, participants will find five modules which can be taken all at once or individually. These modules will introduce users to unconscious bias, walk them through microaggressions, provide a solutions toolkit, develop their self-awareness, and finally, display how unconscious bias affects everyone in regard to medicine and healthcare. Each module takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

This course is available now for any individual NRMN members. Additionally, NRMN is working with organizations and institutions to enroll their groups in the course, whether it’s something they want to recommend or require for their participants. If any organizations or institutions would like additional customizations for their participants (i.e. branded certificates, ), they can let NRMN  know so they can discuss the possibilities and a fee structure.

NRMN is so proud of this course and what it contributes to their mission to diversify the STEM workforce! When participants are ready, they should login to MyNRMN, access the new My Courses feature, and enroll in the Unconscious Bias Course (or click the link below to go directly to the course). After they complete all of the modules, those who finish will receive a certificate and NRMN is looking forward to watching everyone proudly display their accomplishment!
