UAF BLaST-Off Fall 2018 Orientation Celebrates Students

The BLaST-Off Fall 2018 Orientation, held August 25, 2018, at the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus, was attended by 68 participants: 31 Scholars, 10 Undergraduate Research Experience students (UREs), 8 Graduate Mentoring Research Assistants (GMRAs), 5 Faculty Pilot Project faculty, and 14 other/staff members. Scholars who are graduating in the upcoming academic 2018-2019 year were recognized and given BLaST lab coats, distinguishing them as undergraduate scholars in the program at UAF. Special guests at the orientation were Evon Peter, Vice Chancellor for Rural Community and Native Education, and Iñupiaq Elder Elizabeth Fleagle, both of whom shared cultural and broad ideas of how to connect research with Alaskan communities and people.

Graduating 2018-2019 BLaST Scholars recognized at BLaST Orientation were given lab coats with the BLaST logo.
