Jose G. Perez graduated from UTEP in spring 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. As a BUILD Scholar, his efforts have been exceptional, combining coding expertise with an interest in neuroscience to conduct truly innovative research, leading to an impressive first publication. Under the mentorship of computer scientist Olac Fuentes, Ph.D., Perez developed algorithms that were key in mapping hundreds of brain scans. Their collaboration with Arshad Khan, Ph.D., professor of biological sciences, and recent doctoral graduate Claire E. Wells, was published in May 2018 in the journal “Frontiers in Systems Neuroscience.”
