Celebrating Diversity and Science History with LinkedIn Articles

By Melissa Simon

Engaging, training and mentoring undergraduate students in the biomedical research fields – those are key among the goals of the NIH Diversity Program Consortium.

In an effort to further those goals and broaden its reach within the scientific community, the DPC has boosted its online presence through social media, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Most recently, the DPC began publishing blog articles on LinkedIn as part of its strategy to engage more students, faculty and other biomedical researchers.

Launched in 2022, the Diversity Program Consortium — Funded by the National Institutes of Health LinkedIn Blog features articles and other resources to keep the community connected to what’s going on in the realm of biomedical research, including links to other scientific publications, funding opportunities and news sources that share the history and accomplishments of researchers.

Every month, new articles are posted that share more in-depth information about the history for underrepresented groups and celebrate people from across the consortium, including students, scholars, faculty and mentors.

On April 29, the DPC posted a blog focusing on the celebration of diversity. This post explores what diversity means, why it’s important and how the DPC is helping to support diversity and inclusive excellence.

Other recent posts have highlighted science history and the many contributions of researchers to the fields of science, technology, engineering, math and medicine – such as Dr. Patricia Bath, Dr. Ruth L. Kirschstein, Thomas J. Fogarty, Dr. George Nicholas Papanicolaou, and Adah Almutairi.
